Community Workshop: Why people living with HIV must be included in non-HIV clinical trials

Workshop by European AIDS Treatment Group (EATG)

This workshop aims to address the inclusion of people living with HIV in non-HIV clinical trials, highlighting the current lack of data for treatments of non-HIV conditions and existing barriers to the trials. Building on EATG’s work within the framework of the Belong project and position paper, the session will present and discuss current exclusion criteria for people living with HIV in clinical research, understand the implications of these practices, and advocate for more inclusive research protocols, with a specific focus on inclusion of women and other underrepresented groups in clinical trials. In addition, EATG will present The Sitges Model as a successful community-led advocacy approach to promote more inclusive research trials. During this session participants will be invited to engage in discussion on possible approaches for promoting the inclusion of people living with HIV in clinical trials, ensuring equitable access to healthcare advancements.
